Fruits and Vegetables and "Double Up Food Bucks Oregon"

Local families with SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits now have a local grocery store where they can access the Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB) program.

The DUFB program "matches" SNAP benefits spent at participating farmers markets, like the La Grande Farmers Market, allowing families to earn up to $20 a day to spend on fresh produce. Now, as part of a pilot program this benefit is also available at Market Place Fresh Foods, a grocery store in La Grande.

Shoppers can get more fruits and vegetables when they spend their Oregon Trail Card (SNAP) dollars at Market Place Fresh Foods and the La Grande Farmers Market. For example, if $10 of SNAP dollars are used to purchase fruits and vegetables at these locations, that person will earn $10 in Double Up Food Bucks incentives to redeem on fruits and vegetables.

SNAP is a federal food assistance program formerly called Food Stamps. The benefits are issued monthly on the Oregon Trail Card and can be used to buy eligible foods at most grocery stores and farmers markets. The DUFB program is currently only available at one La Grande grocery story and the La Grande Farmers Market. To earn more about eligibility for SNAP and how to apply, go to www.oregon.gov/dhs/assistance/food-benefits.
